Every year the taxpayers receive millions of notice from the Internal Revenue Service but many of them don’t know how to respond to these notices and letters. Most of these notices are received towards the end of summer. There are certain things that every taxpayer should be aware of and this can be very helpful in responding to the IRS notices.

The most common reaction when taxpayers get any IRS notice is that they start to panic without even going through its content. You must not panic whenever you receive any of the IRS notices. These letters generally consists of few clarifications which can be dealt without getting scared.

The Internal Revenue Service may send notices and letters due to various possible reasons. These include a request for the payment of taxes in time or a notification for some needful changes required for your account and so asking for some additional information. So generally these notices are sent in case of any issue with your tax return or account.

Every letter that is sent by the IRS consists of particular instructions that you must follow in order to satisfy the query. These instructions include detailed procedure of the solution to the inquiry made by the IRS. In case the notice that you receive is a correction notice, you should thoroughly review the particular information by comparing it with the one on your return.

Even if you find the correction to be correct, you need not reply to that notice necessarily unless some of your payment is due. But in case one or some of your payment is due, you must positively respond to the notice accepting the correction mentioned in the notice. But if you find the correction made by the IRS to be incorrect then your immediate response becomes very important. You must explain your disagreement in detail to the IRS.

You can also attach any documents and information in your support at some specified portion of the notice. The mailing address is provided on the upper left-hand corner of the notice. You must mail all the documents to the given address and allow a minimum of 30 days to the IRS for a feedback.

Generally there is no need to call or visit the IRS office for the procedure. But in case you have some unanswered queries then you may call to its office on the telephone number provided on the upper right-hand corner of the notice sent by the Internal Revenue Service. You must keep a copy of your returns and other correspondences handy when you call the IRS office for convenience. This will help them to answer your query.

The IRS notice is a regular process followed by Internal Revenue Service for your convenience only and therefore you must respond to these notices positively.

The Universal gist is that “It is a leisure-activity pursued for Pleasure.” For some people hobbies are for fun, for passing time. For a few others hobbies can mean earning some amount of money. Even small businesses are sometimes considered as hobbies. And for the majority of the population summer is the only time for hobbies. For people who consider hobbies as a non-profit activity, here is an information- interests like photography, woodworking, stamp-collecting and scrap-booking can help you make money.

Conditions to test if your hobby could be deemed as a business:

If your hobby is accomplished with reasonable anticipation to make earnings.

If you depend on the proceedings earned from your hobby.

If you believe if your hobby can help you gain better profit in future from the positive reception of the usage of resources.

If you have considered different methods of implementing your hobby to acquire a yield or sum of money.

If you have ended up making a yield from your pleasure activity.

Even though your hobby doesn’t provide room for proceedings, it can be considered a business. Few people’s hobbies can make huge sum of money, but they may not be aware of it or the other reason can be lack of interest.

But if your ideal hobby is likely to make money in every possible year or so, you may be subjected to tax propositions. Let the IRS know about your pay for every activity you accomplish. If you consider your activity only as a leisure, your investment cannot exceed your expectations. But involving your interests in trade or business may help you deduce your miscellaneous expenses.

Corporations that are eligible have time till September 15th while individuals have till 15th of October.

Through this program, the small businesses have an option to regain some cash if for the loss occurred in 2008. The prime criteria is that, the businesses should have met profit in the previous years.

2) Receiving refund for taxes paid 5 years ago

3) Can make use of this option and recover the loss rather than waiting to apply for returns in future.

The process could be accelerated by filing the Form 1045, which is an application for tentative refund. Corporations could do the procedure by filing form 1139., which is a corporation application for tentative refund.The procedure takes up to 45 days to be completed.

1) If you receive bill from IRS demanding to make payment for late tax along with the penalty and if you are not in a position to remit the entire amount, its better to take a loan and get done with it rather than making payments in installments.

2) It is possible to make the payment using your credit card. Visit IRS.gov for whom to contact with this regard.

3) The interest rate while you pay through a loan or credit card is lower than the interest worked out by IRS as penalties.

4) The penalty owed could also be paid by cheque, electronic transfer or money order.

5) It is also possible to request to IRS for arrangement of payment in monthly installments. In order to avail this facility, all your returns must be filed and tax estimations must be up-to-date.

Looks like the retail mania of offering discounts has not spared even the United States Treasury either. At a time when the Nationwide Tax Forums commence, the treasury invites professionals in the field of finance, mainly tax planners to register early for one of the 6 forums and avail a discount on the full registration fee. The registration fee amounts to $129 usually.

What exactly does the Nationwide Tax Forum do?

The Nationwide Tax Forum conducts seminars and workshops spread over three days with the aim of educating the population on information relating to tax.

These topics cover Tax regulations, changes in the tax schemes as well as its administration. Professionals from the Internal Revenue service come together during these seminars to deliver these lectures. There are many workshops and training seminars too which offer CPE (Continuing Professional Education) credits. There are around 18 credits that can be obtained through these seminars and workshops.

Who can enroll for these programs and what is the pattern of the programmed this year?

Certified Public Accountants and agents usually enroll for this program. This year, the IRS plans to conduct 40 seminars as well as three workshops. These workshops and seminars will qualify the enrolled members for the CPE credits. Another feature is that, out of the 40 seminars, 17 have been set aside for qualifying agents as financial planners. This award will however need to be reviewed by the Certified Financial Planner Board. Members who are a part of any of the following professional organizations are entitled to a discount in the registration fee;

* American Bar Association
* National Society of Accountants
* National Association of Tax Professionals
* American Institute of Certified Public Accountants
* National Society of Tax Professionals
* National Association of Enrolled Agents

What are the Registration Details for the Tax Forums?

There is a pre- registration fees which costs $206 per person for registering in one city. An on site registration is similar to the on the spot registration which amounts to $335. The pre registration will be closed 2 weeks before the commencement of the forums. The scheduled dates of commencement of the program and the city in which it will be held are mentioned below.
