IRS conforms that Inflation will have little effect on 2010 Tax Rates & Benefits


IRS announced today that the effect of inflation on tax rate brackets and many other tax benefits would remain unaltered or see a very slight change only in 2010.

In the past  more than three dozen tax benefits have been subjected to inflation adjustments every year. In contrast due to inflation factor being minimal, 2010 would see no or little changes in tax benefits.

Lets take a look on what’s in store for most taxpayers in the coming year:

  • Personal and dependency exemption’s value would remain unaltered ay $3650.
  • Deductions for head of households has increased from this year’s $8350 to $8400 although for other taxpayers like married people filing for a joint return and for singles or married individuals filing separately, the amount remains the same, $11,400 and $5700 respectively.
  • The annual gift tax exemption remains the same at $13,000.
  • Tax bracket thresholds would see only minor changes.

IRS announces Last Date to get Tax Credit Certification for New Hires


IRS announces last date as October 17th for Businesses that are planning to make a claim for work opportunity tax credit that is eligible for veterans who are unemployed and disconnected young workers who were hired before mid of September. You have to really hurry if you want to get the certification for these workers.

A notice that was released in August announced the extension of last date from August 17th to October 17th and also clarified all doubts regarding the definition of disconnected youth.

One can use the revised Form 8850 on the IRS.gov website to fill the details regarding the request of certification from one’s state workforce agency.

Normally businesses are expected to file for this form within 28 days after the worker who is eligible starts working. But now you can file it for eligible employers who have begun work between January 1st 2009 to September 17th 2009,in a couple of days.There is a separate instruction form alloted in the IRS website to guide you through the process.

Take advantage of this  extension of last date and hurry to claim for the certification!!!

Who wouldn’t like to use some extra money coming summer? Find out if IRS has some in store for you. If you have still not filed a return for the previous year and your return is due,its the ideal time for you to file for a refund. If your last year’s refund has been missed, you should contact IRS to confirm your current address.
