Dave Ramsey Life and Times

Known to be the voice of financial wisdom, Dave Ramsey is a man who has been in the news for all reasons – whether it is money, life, grandeur, success or criticism, he has seen it all in a short time. A financial writer, a radio host, a television personality, an entrepreneur, a leader, a financial advisor and counselor, Dave is an immaculate blend of all.

The Crest and the Base at 26

Ramsey, born on September 3, 1960, was a proud man at the age of 26, having accumulated wealth over a million of dollars through his firm Ramsey Investments. Tennessee’s youngest brokers, Ramsey was sailing in the boat to financial heaven when suddenly a turmoil crippled him and tried to upside down his boat. He was forced to bankruptcy and had to struggle hard, with his unmanageable debts hovering around, to keep the momentum going.

Learning his Lessons

Ramsey learnt his lesson and vowed never to borrow money again. After two and a half years of rigorous struggle to bring himself out of the financial mess, he finally succeeded in gaining his financial footing back. This financial upheaval gave a new direction to his life. He began counseling people who were engulfed in financial troubles of their own and helped them to recover from them.

He attended various workshops, interviewed rich and successful people and read variety of books and on that basis developed a set of principles for financial counseling. He set up his own company named The Lampo Group in 1991 that went about doing the business of financial counseling.

The Golden Year of 1992

1992 turned out to be a golden year in Ramsey’s life. He made a debut as a writer and also as a radio host. His first book “Financial Peace” was a perfect guide to help people manage their money. He collaborated with his friend and started a radio show named “The Money Game”, currently on air as the “The Dave Ramsey Show”, which went nationwide in 1994.

The Journey Ahead

In 1994, Dave kick started Financial Peace University on a weekly basis for 6 months. “Financial Peace”, which was taken up by Viking, proudly became The Lampo Group’s first New York Times best seller. Later, Dave got featured on People magazine and made his debut on screen on CBN in 1997.

His other well written creations were “The Financial Peace Planner”, “More Than Enough”, “The Total Money Makeover” and the latest one being “Priceless.” He made an appearance on “60 Minutes”, the coveted TV show in 2004 and the “Oprah Winfrey Show” in 2005. He also wrote for a column “Dave Says”, which is available for more than 5 million readers. “The Dave Ramsey Show” has added to its 350th affiliate today.

Success brings fame and criticism alike. Dave has been criticized on various grounds for his works and statements but he didn’t stop and moved ahead in his professional life. A man with a mystical mind, Dave Ramsey is a brand in himself.
